(30 mins) | I decided this year that I wanted to experiment with occasionally publishing a mixed media project on Tuesdays instead of a new podcast episode.
I loved this blog so much. I’m an accomplished knitter, but I’ve been in a prolonged creative slump. I had so much fun watching you and Michelle learn and problem solve together, it reminded how fun it is to knit. I ran to the yarn store and bought bright, royal blue yarn and started knitting this garter stitch shawl (in one colour): https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2021/11/14/striped-triangle-garter-wrap/
Thank you for the reminder about the joy of knitting and short-term habits.
Having profound flashbacks to university, all of us curled up over motion sensors and buggy code racing to the finish line together.
The intensity of building things in career burns slower (thoughtful, calculated, purposeful). I remember in my first job thinking wow, finally a chance to rest and think clearly. But watching this made me miss those hot flashes!
I have been sharing this with my friends and we all can’t stop watching. Both the vlog and the follow up essay were so cathartic and funny and felt really relevant. I spent last Saturday running errands with a pal and got home thinking how much I had missed just coexisting with friends without it being a perfectly curated ~hang~. Thank you for articulating these feelings better than I ever could!!
New sub <3 this vlog was laugh-out-loud wonderful and oh so charismatic. i know it wasn't scripted, but the editing was so tight and you and your friends are so smart and funny, it almost felt like it was written. in the best way. i hope you make more!
p.s. i think i've been to that yarn store (on atlantic?) and they are always mean.
I made my mother knit me a pink balaclava last winter, and i have of course worn it no more than 5 times since. Your video has really made me reevaluate how much I should have appreciated that hand-knit gift from my mum! will now wear every day. right after i give her a hug and say thank u. wow.
This was so lovely, and gentle in a way that feels very comforting in this day and age. Thank you for sharing!
I’m so impressed with you and your friends apartments! Everything is so stylish and nice to look at! How do you guys do it? I also weirdly kind of want to know where you get your comfy looking tees from? Like that yellow one? It seems basic but I’ve totally forgotten how to dress and shop for myself these days.
This is so nice thank you!! Yellow tee is merch from Economy Candy! An old candy store in downtown new york. Pretty sure you can buy online! But it's a pretty basic shirt nothing too special in the fit. As for our apartments it's definitely been built up over time...but I've found that I've liked my apartment much more since I started buying really colorful stuff. For a long time in my twenties I was going for a more sophisticated palate but not actually buying nice things, and now I'm more likely to buy nice things in less sophisticated colors....idk if that's helpful at all lol, but has def helped me!
um okay loved this!! as someone currently attempting to learn sewing and knitting and being GLUED to all tutorials, i feel solidarity in 1) being confused every step of the way and 2) embracing the imperfect result of my efforts as i learn something new (it’s SO uncomfortable). anyway amazing job 10000/10 balaclavas 👏👏👏
p.s. can we talk about daniel’s new mexico hoodie for a hot sec, i literally ran into the other room to show my boyfriend (we’re both from nm and live for a zia sighting in the wild)
this vlog is beyondddddd, i love it!! also, unrelated but related, where did you get your green (?) eyeglass frames 🙏🏾 🙊🙊

Hmm, maybe this one could be in your next knitting vlog? It'd definitely be a new challenge! https://www.lauradalgaard.com/shop/p/romvi-balaclava-pattern-in-eng-and-dk
